Yoga for Beginners with Tamara

Yoga for Beginners

When it comes to getting started, yoga can be intimidating. You might wonder if you're flexible enough or in good enough shape. It’s easy to think yoga is just for a certain type of person. Truth is, yoga is for everyone. It doesn't require prior knowledge or a certain level of athleticism. No matter your age or physical ability, you can get started with the basics and reap yoga's many benefits. Through each class, I will guide you through centering, breathwork, warm-ups, standing and seated postures, and we’ll end the class with deep relaxation.

Yoga practice is a life changing choice that will make you feel happier, more at ease, infusing clarity and balance into your life. Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root yuj, which means to join and yoga means union. Each and every one of us is born as a yogi with mind, body and soul united in harmony. The distractions of everyday life and the negative impacts from your surroundings can lead you to disconnect with your true Self, your essence within. Yoga can be your guide towards finding your inner calm, building strength and improving your health. While being fully present in the moment and connecting inward, yoga aims to quiet the mind and cultivate a deeper connection to and understanding of the self.

The more deeply you know who you are, the more aware you become of the best way to care for yourself and your needs. You’ll feel more grounded and confident. It will leave you feeling grounded, confident, energized, stronger, and calmer, all at once. These benefits are amplified when the practice is made consistent.

Saturdays in May @ 11:15am

About Your Instructor

My name is Tamara Abuleil. I have a background in interior design and general arts. My love for yoga practice started about five years ago. That love turned into passion until recently when the universe gifted me a sign, an actual ad that lead me to a yoga teaching certification program. This program gave me a deeper understanding of yoga and its benefits beyond just optimizing the health of the body.  As a wife and mom of two active busy boys, constantly keeping me on the go, it can be it can be challenging finding the time to sit with a quiet mind. Yoga transformed me in a way that it gave me a total reset. It changed me spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. I’ve learned that in order to love others unconditionally, I need to fully love and accept myself. The ultimate lesson is that your breath is the gateway to being present in the moment.  I felt driven to share my knowledge with anyone that was open to hear and I knew in my heart that I was set out to impact others the way I have been through this practice.

As the plants and flowers around us begin to grow and bloom, it’s the perfect time to learn more about the magic that’s contained in each one! From herbal medicine to spell jars and prayer petitions, working with plants can seem daunting and intimidating:

🌿How do I know what herb to add to my candle dressing?

In this blend of introductory and intermediate workshop, we’ll simplify your focus to 4 families of magickal herbs: Calming, Igniting, Petitioning, & Offering and how to work within those families for various types of herbal workings.

✨ Candle Dressing

✨ Incense & Smudging

About Your Hosts

Front Porch Collective was born from a need to create more spaces for grievers and build communities that understand and embrace the process of griefwork. Following the sudden loss of her father in 2022, FPC founder Nicole Kerekes began the healing process of working with a Certified Grief Educator and supporter. Through their griefwork together, Nicole began feeling empowered to take on life again. It was the realization that Nicole wanted to do for others what her supporter did for her that drove her to become a Certified Grief Educator through David Kessler and grief.com. Several years ago, she was a student at a group fitness facility and stumbled upon Bokwa. It was love at first dance! Her inner child came alive for that one hour per week. She went on to get certified to teach, but life kept throwing curve balls and pulling her in other directions. Upon finding a great studio at The Crescent Collective, she found her connection with Bokwa coming back in. Yet…Due to trauma, societal conditioning, lack of information and a cultural disregard for the importance of spiritual practice, many of us find ourselves disconnected from the three parts individually, let alone in unified connection with the group.

The basis of Dance Floor Church is facilitating unification of the of our three selves into one harmonious being or state.

In Dance Floor Church, we access flow state, which is an exquisite embodiment experience that many liken to bliss, or ecstasy.
When in flow state, our physical sensory system is in safety, and wide open to connection with our spiritual and emotional selves
From here, our physical self and our spiritual/ethereal/creative self come into harmonious alignment.
This process connects us to our truest expression of self, unlocking pathways to healing that have previously been inaccessible.

We can access our deepest, intuitive, creative stirrings
We can access parts of us that have felt ‘lost’ or ‘forgotten’.
We can access our inner wise woman
We can access Shadow with curiosity and openness
We can access healing where it was previously unavailable
We can access our magick and ability to manifest the lives we desire.

In Dance Floor Church, we remember who the fuck we are

In Dance Floor Church, we explore our nervous systems, tap into our deepest flow state, learn how to work with energies and emotions stored in the body, move them through the body, and reclaim our personal power through movement and dance.

During this class, you will connect to your deepest self, explore emotions/sensation/emotion, befriend and regulate your nervous system. You will fill your toolkit with exercises and practices to take home, and off the mat to help you feel more confident, powerful, and regulated throughout your week.

In class, we explore various techniques and practices, including: breath work, nervous system regulation, yoga, meditation, womb wisdom, un-choreographed (and some VERY sensual) dance.

This class is extremely powerful, and can, at times, be (safely) confronting.

Each class opens and closes in sacred circle, and invites all participants to be seen and witnessed in a circle of women.

Attending all FOUNDATION classes is highly recommended BEFORE attending pop up classes.

We will build on techniques and theory throughout the 4 week FOUNDATIONS that will be used throughout other classes

Classes fill quickly, pre-registration is  recommended

Currently, this class is open to women, non binary folks and all genders with internal reproductive anatomy.

6:30PM-8:00PM

$40 per class or $130 for the 4 week series using code SAVE4

Meet your instructor:

Stephanie Williams is a Certified Bokwa Instructor. She began dancing as a child, but her connection to it throughout the years was sporadic. Movement helps move, release, and ground energy held within our bodies; and for Stephanie, there is not a more fun way to do "the work" than through Bokwa!

Saturdays February, + March 2, 16, 30 @ 11:15am

What to bring: Feel free to bring your own yoga mat, but mats and blocks are available for use at the studio. Bring a water bottle.

Cost: $20 each class, drop-ins welcome

Please register to save your spot using the calendar below - select the date for which you’d like to register and follow the remaining prompts. (Click “add a time” or “recurring” to select multiple class dates)
